12-Year-Old Girls Charged with Slenderman Stabbing Deemed Competent, Will be Tried as Adults

Criminal Lawyers In Murfreesboro TNTwo Wisconsin girls who have been accused of stabbing their friend in order to impress a fictitious internet urban legend have now been deemed competent to stand trial.

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, who were both 12 at the time of the alleged attack, have been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing their friend 19 times while out playing hide-and-seek.

The attack, the two girls claim, was carried out in an attempt to impress the fictitious internet boogeyman, Slenderman, a character whose urban legends claim he tells children to maim and murder other children for his approval.

The girls stabbed their friend while playing in a park and left her for dead.  The victim crawled out of the woods and to a nearby road, where a bicyclist found her and called for an ambulance.  The girl recovered, but stab wounds had been so close to her heart that the criminal complaint read she was “one millimeter away from certain death.”

Authorities first didn’t know if the girls could be deemed mentally competent to stand trial for their crimes, but now, after a decision from Waukesha County Circuit Court, the two have a preliminary hearing set for February 18.
