Vanderbilt Rape Trial Conclusion: Ex-Football Players Have Been Found Guilty

Murfreesboro Criminal Lawyers_Sexual assaultIn a trial that took the jury only a few hours to reach a verdict, Brandon Vandenburg and Corey Batey, both now ex-players for Vanderbilt’s football team, have been found guilty for sexually assaulting a female classmate in a campus dorm room.

Prosecutors claim that victim, a 21-year old woman, had been casually seeing Vandenburg at the time.  She was allegedly drunk and passed out, when Vandeburg then decided to carry her to his dorm.  According to prosecutors, Vandenburg and Batey, along with two other teammates, Brandon Banks and Jaborian McKenzie, laughed at the unconscious girl, then proceeded to sexually assault her.

The woman stated that she didn’t remember anything that happened, and only first fully knew about it by watching a recorded video and pictures of the incident during the trial.

Vandenburg and Batey have had their bond revoked, and they now await sentencing on March 6.  Banks and McKenzie, who also face rape and sexual battery charges, have not yet gone to trial.
